page 4Betty is looking to finish her collection of Working Class Decoys and one of the birds she is missing is an IWCA style Shoveler Hen.
There is an entry fee for this contest $10 for first entry and $5 for each additional entry only one bird will be selected. Ribbons will be awarded.
This contest will take place on the 3rd
floor at 2 -2:30PM on Sunday Cards will be provided to the carver to put on their bird if they want to participate in this contest. You may participate in any of the other IWCA contests.War of the Chips Championship
This competition is open to any and all carvers. Club participation is welcome and highly recommended. This event is designed to promote decoy carving and to introduce techniques to the general public. Wood, cork or canvas decoys can be constructed. Carving and painting of the decoy will begin on Thursday at Noon and continue until Sunday March 18th at 11AM. Friday starting of decoys is encouraged to show those vintage bird collectors and dealers the talents of today’s carvers.
Each Carving Team will submit their pattern to Bob Lund, 140 Southwood Drive, Perrysburg, OH 43551 no later that February 15, 2008, and each team may select any bird that is allowed in the Wildfowler rules; Wildfowler rules will govern this contest. Each pattern must be done free hand and can not be computer aided or copied from any published pattern book. Upon return of the pattern normal band sawing techniques may be used to create the head and body. Hollowing or keel preparation of the decoy will not be required. Each team will present the pattern, body and head on prior to starting on their decoy to the committee that will be located in the lobby to assign the teams their carving and painting location.
Each group or team will then be permitted to use their power tools. Hand tools, rasps, knives are highly encouraged.
Painting of the decoy should take place during show hours in accordance with Wildfowler rules. Those decoys requiring a special drying area one will be provided.
The decoys will be displayed Sunday from 10AM to Noon for Judging and Silent Auction
Each team will receive 80 percent of the silent auction proceeds.

The Duck Blind
The Duck Blind is celebrating its 21st year at the O.D.C.C.A. Show. This year we will again sponsor “Free” Seminars on Carving and Painting on both Saturday and Sunday in the Director’s Room featuring Willy McDonald and the use of hand tools. We will also demonstrate texturing and combing, painting and the use of an airbrush. No registration required. Come early for a good seat. Demos begin at 10AM on both days.
Be sure to visit “Princess Di” at The Duck Blind booth where she will have a full line of carving and painting supplies, video and photo reference on song birds, and “how to” videos on carving and air brushing. Be sure to mention that you are a “Duck Stickers Forum” participant.
