HALL Charles E. Charles Edward Hall, 77, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, as the result of an accident. He was born on August 20, 1932, in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Clyde and Grace Hall. Charles, or Chuck as most people knew him, was a kind and generous man who was a friend to everyone he met. Chuck graduated from Clay High School in 1951, where he began a lifelong interest in tool and die machining. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed by Clapp and Haney Tool before opening his own company, Tool Grinding Service. Most of his tool-making skills were self taught. Chuck retired from his business in 2005 and spent many hours on his hobbies of decorative duck carving, fishing and watching Ohio State football games and Duke basketball games. He enjoyed attending the local and national wood carving shows and won many awards and ribbons with his beautiful decoys. He was a member of the ODCCA (Ohio Decoy Collectors & Carvers Association) and the Maumee Bay Carvers Association. He also was employed part-time as a courier for ProMedica and he loved his job and all the friends that he made there. Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Mitchell, on August 22, 1953 and they shared 55 years together before her death in March of this year. They are survived by their four children: Gail (Greg) Armstrong, Pamela (Kevin) McCarthy, Doug Hall and David (Teri) Hall; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Judy) Hall, and sister, Barbara Fay. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Earl Hall. Chuck had many nicknames, including Charlie, Ed, and Eddie, but the one that he cherished most of all was Grandpa or Papa. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their school activities. He will be greatly missed by his family, all his wonderful friends at ODCCA and Maumee Bay Carvers, and his co-workers at ProMedica. Visitation will be Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Gasiorowski - Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Memorial contributions may be given to the ODCCA, c/o Carole Kmetz, 9016 Munich Drive, Parma, OH 44130.

Charlie was the maker of eye drills of all sizes and then combs used for painting.  He and Bob Bolle went to the shows and showed the carving public how to use the combs.  Most of the top carvers have Charlie Hall combs.  He was working on a comb with for the Blue Bill that was requested the Rick Johannson.  This comb was to have a step down design!

Charlie went to as many shows and as he was able.  He served as the President of the Maumee Bay Carvers and was the Volunteer Chair of the ODCCA.  He also participated in events for the kids showing them how to paint decoys!

Charlie will be missed by all of his friends.
