ODCCA Life Member passes away

March 22, 2017

Dr. Tom H. Brunsman, 86, beloved husband of Betty Sue Brunsman (nee Ormiston) for over 60 years, devoted father of Susan (James) Owen, and the late Kenneth (Marla) Brunsman, loving grandfather of Thomas (Stephanie) Owen, Scott Owen, Kelsey Brunsman and Brady Brunsman, brother of Dr. John (Janet) Brunsman of Arizona, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
Tom was born to Arnold Lewis and Ella Claassen Brunsman September 23, 1930, in Cincinnati Ohio.  He graduated in 1948 from Walnut Hills High School and attended the University of Cincinnati, where he received a Bachelors in Chemistry and Zoology in 1952.  He was accepted into U.C. Medical School and graduated in 1956.  Tom married the love of his life, Betty Sue Ormiston, that same year and began his medical career with an internship at Cincinnati General Hospital.
He proudly served as a Captain in the US Air Force. Tom and Betty Sue were stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas.  After serving two years, they returned to Cincinnati in 1959.  Upon their return, Tom began his four year OB Residency at Cincinnati General Hospital.
In July of 1963, with the support of his family, he began his solo practice in OB/Gyn.  He was loved by his patients and respected by all who worked for him.  He was a teacher, a colleague, and a friend to all. He was a long-standing member of the American Medical Association and Ohio State Medical Association. He also served as the President of the Academy of Medicine OB/Gyn Society for one year.
When Tom retired in 1991, he spent his time doing things that he loved.  First and foremost, was enjoying time with his family.  He also enjoyed the outdoors while hunting and fishing.  He was an accomplished wood carver and carved many beautiful detailed duck decoys. A life member of the Ohio Decoy Collectors and Carvers, Tom and Sue attended each show and gave their strong support to organization.
Services will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45232.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that Memorial Donations be directed to Hospice of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597 or The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
