Make a Vintage Shorebird Silhouette step-by-step and relieve some stress!
Are you feeling a little cooped up? Are you tired of watching reruns? OK! Put down the clicker, turn the TV off and get going on a simple and fun project, great for all ages! Thanks to Wildfowl Carving Magazine and editor Tom Huntington, we are providing a link where you can follow step-by-step instructions and view photos on how to make a vintage shorebird silhouette. This project is a collaborative effort developed by Robert Lund, past president of the Ohio Decoy Collectors and Carvers Association, and board member, Gary Joe Bryan, both of whom have been carving waterfowl for over 30 years. Not all carving projects have to be long and difficult. Making vintage shorebird silhouettes is quick, easy, and fun. Gary Joe has designed many shorebird patterns over the years, and he is considered to be one of the best carvers in the world. Many of his carvings lend themselves to silhouettes that look like the shorebird decoys hunters used many years ago. He also shows how to create the "vintage" look. This article "Vintage Silhouette Shorebirds" including the pattern, is from the Winter 2017 issue, (click here to view). For more information on other carving and painting projects featured in Wildfowl Carving Magazine, click here to view their complete listing, starting from 1985. Many back issues are available for sale. |

How ODCCA BeganOn March 16 - 17, 2024, the ODCCA is holding its 45th Annual Vintage Decoys & Wildlife SHOW and SALE.
In 1963, a group of decoy collectors met in the Cleveland area to share their interest and knowledge about this artform first created by indigenous people. In 1976, the ODCCA was organized with the goal of holding an annual show and sale. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers who have kept this show going for 45 years! |
